Introduction towards abstractionism
Abstract paintings celebrate conceptual emotions, texture and colours in its every form rather than just imitating mere nature or trying to decipher mood.
From the period of Renaissance till the mid of 19th century Western art followed the stern logic of applying perspective. Pablo Ruiz y Picasso (1881 – 1973): a legendary Spanish painter who brought an entirely new dimension to the world of art with his extreme creative talents. He pioneered cubism and continued this form till 1907. He introduced Protocubism, Analytic Cubism, Synthetic Cubism, realist and surrealist genre.
Arshile Gorky (1904-1948): Gorky’s art in the 1920’s and 30’s were highly influenced by Cezanne and Picasso. His creative contents moved towards abstraction during 1940. His famous paintings are Organization, the garden in Sochl, The Liver is the Cocks’ Comb, water of the Flowery Mill and The plough and the song.
Pieter Cornelis “Piet” Mondriaan (1872-1944): His works were influenced by Cubism and started experimenting with more abstract paintings during 20th century. Around 1920 he brought out his own style of work which is even popular today. His famous works are Schilderij No. 1: Lozenge with Two Lines and Blue (1926), aka Composition with Blue and Composition in White and Blue, Broadway Boogie Woogie and his incomp0lete Victory Boogie Woogie.
Paul Jackson Pollock (1912 -1956), in mid 20th century he pioneered usage of new techniques of painting. He sketched some of the greatest abstract paintings of all times. His method of “Action Painting” is world famous.
Mark Rothko (1903 -1970), His mature style of paintings represent pure colour of floating fields. His works are highly recognizable and distinguished. His famous works are Magenta, Black, and Green on Orange, Rust and Blue, Four Darks in Red (1958)
Among Contemporary Famous Abstract Artists, Sean Scully, Howard Hodgkin and Damien Hirst are quite well known for their works.
